Well, it's been a while since I posted but here is a quick update on our life.
Chloe had eye surgery in November. We had a wonderful Thanksgiving and then Christmas and New Year. Everything is healing great and we couldn't be happier with her development. She turns 1 on the 18th! I cannot believe it has almost been a year since she was born. She loves standing and holding on to things but is still in no mood to crawl, scoot, or army crawl. More reminiscing to come around that time.
Lance is enjoying his break from school and is VERY busy at Wells Fargo. January is supposedly their biggest month for business and he comes home exhausted.
I began my internship at Green Valley HS 3 days ago. It is fun, a lot of work, a little overwhelming, but I love every minute of it. I have already been assigned a big project by the principal and have already started working on it. It has to do with tracking students who need to retrieve credits because they are deficient in math credits. I have already had a lot of "crazy" and "interesting" experiences that I will share throughout (leaving out names, of course). I actually know some of the students and many of them know my brother so I have to be sensitive about what I say at home. I need to remember the ethical standards from my coursework!
Annoyance/observation/story so far:
It is amazing to see my how so many parents do not allow their child to take responsibility for their actions. I have already had experience with 3 students/parents that blame the teacher for all of their academic problems. I am sure that I will have many more of these experiences throughout my career, but I met one mom this week who could not understand why her daughter had to stay in a class. Well, lady, first of all there are two weeks left in the semester meaning she will lose credit if she is moved, second is that there are only two weeks left and then she can be moved once she receives credit for her class and three I am pretty sure that it is not the teacher's fault that your daughter may fail her class (even though your daughter is the one who should be turning in assignments, showing up to class, and taking the tests for a grade) and four your daughter's grade is between her and the instructor. It is amazing that as many times as the counselor repeated this same information to the mother, she just kept getting louder and louder and blaming the teacher. A-MA-ZING.
